Can’t get the tent back in that bag!

So you’ve enjoyed the sun, endured the rain, the sleeping bags and the rest of your camping gear are in the boot of the car and now you feel at one with nature. Just one thing left to do… pack away the tent, did it really come out of that tiny bag?

With a little bit of planning, and maybe a tad of patience, getting the tent back in the tent bag should be pretty straightforward.

Once you’ve taken all of the tent pegs out, spread the tent out evenly, and remember to leave the doors of the outer and inner tents open slightly to prevent air getting trapped inside the tent.

Fold the tent over enough times so it will fit into the length of the bag. It helps to leave the bag stretched out at the end of the tent as you’re folding it so you know what size to aim for.

Whilst folding the tent over, have a cloth or an old towel handy to wipe off any excess water or mud from the groundsheet. The cleaner and drier your tent is packed away, the less chance you have of any mould setting into it. This is where the benefits of a footprint groundsheet come in.

A footprint groundsheet is exactly the same size as the built in groundsheet of your tent and sits underneath it.It creates an extra layer between the tent and the ground, and therefore keeps the underside of your built in groundsheet nice and clean.

Roll the tent out towards the tent bag.Start from the rear of the tent so that any air escapes through the front door. Once rolled, or folded over, the tent should pop easily back into the bag. If not, take a deep breath and start again, practice makes perfect 😉
