Outwell Tent Training

Posted in Camping Tips & Ideas / How To / News & Reviews on 2nd May 2013

Author - James Coplin

Last week Outwell very kindly invited us off out into the wilds for some product training on their new 2013 range of tents.

We got to spend a couple of days in the presence of  the infamous Outwell Guy (who hosts all of the tremendously helpful Outwell instructional videos) who tried to pass on as much of his knowledge and expertise as possible to us. We think at least some of it may have rubbed off 🙂

The vast majority of Outwell Tents are now ( due to great popularity and demand ) in the Tunnel design and due to this linear, simple design, most tents are very similar in the way in which they are pitched. We started off by putting up one of the largest of these tunnel tents, the Wolf Lake 7. All outwell tents can be put up in a few simple steps.

I tried to take as many photos as possible, but as I was meant to be helping as well I didn’t get every single stage, but you get the gist……

LAY THE TENT OUT ON DRY FLAT GROUND ON TOP OF THE APPROPRIATE FOOTPRINT GROUNDSHEET(if required)

Wolf Lake 7 1

INSERT THE STEEL OR ALLOY POLES (depending on model) AND LAY THE SECTIONS ON TOP OF ONE ANOTHER

Wolf Lake 7 2

LIFT UP THE TENT BY THE POLES AND STRETCH OUT LENGTHWAYS UNTIL THE TENT HAS TAKEN SHAPE.

THE TENT WILL NOW BE STURDY AND FREE STANDING.  INSERT THE 4 CORNER PEGS.

Wolf Lake 7 3

ATTACH THE ZIP IN GROUNDSHEET. THIS CAN BE LEFT IN PERMANENTLY BUT IT’S BETTER TO REMOVE IT

EACH TIME SO IT CAN BE CLEANED. THIS CAN THEN BE PACKED SEPARATELY TO KEEP THE BULK OF THE MAIN

TENT MORE MANAGEABLE.

Wolf Lake 7 6

INSERT THE BEDROOM PODS, HANGING WARDROBES ETC, THESE HOOK UP QUICKLY AND EASILY.

Wolf Lake 7 7

Once everything is attached inside, pop outside and put the rest of the pegs in and you’re ready to go!

We put several tents up on our little training exercise, but on the whole they pretty much follow the same formula, it’s straighforward and methodical. A set of instructions will of course come with every tent, however for many of the tents, Outwell Guy has made instructional pitching videos which take you through the process so theres no possible way you can make a mistake when it comes to the crunch at the campsite 🙂

Check out the pitching video for the Wolf Lake 7 below. Other Outwell pitching videos can be found here.

PITCHING THE OUTWELL BAHIA 7

Bahia 7 3

Wolf Lake 7 8

Bahia 7 1

Bahia 7 2

The Bahia 7 is from the new Superior range from Outwell. These tents as standard have amongst many other features, Tinted Windows,  Night Sky Ceilings and also the Outwell Hybrid frame System which integrates the steel poles with extra strong eye-brow poles.

This extra sturdy frame then enables, if you wish to move the tent into the ideal position before pegging it down. Likewise, if you should for any reason need to move the tent once pitched (if the ground becomes waterlogged, or your neighbours have pitched a little too close for comfort ) then you can with a minimum of effort. With one person on each corner we easily moved the tent around until we found the most even, suitable pitch 🙂

The Biscayne is very similar to the Bahia, the main difference being the Bahia has a panoramic front and the Biscayne has an open fronted porch. Check out our Packages section, where we have a great offer on a complete package for the Biscayne 6 which includes the Tent, Carpet, and Groundsheet.

Check out The video for the Biscayne 6 here ….

Thanks to Outwell for a great couple of days training, if anyone has any customers on the new Outwell product range, please give us a call to test our knowledge and see how well we were listening to Outwell Guy ! 01209 203220
