Power, inverter and battery FAQ
Can I run the Vango Sizzle Double Induction Hob from an inverter or leisure battery?
The hob is rated at 800 W per zone, with a maximum combined load of 1,600 W. Battery use requires a suitable inverter or a power station with a suitable AC outlet; it does not connect directly to a 12 V or 24 V battery. The figures below are planning examples, not manufacturer-approved compatibility guarantees.
| Power source or question | What to check |
|---|---|
| Campsite electric hook-up | Check the pitch limit and the combined load of all appliances. At a nominal 230 V, a 6 A supply provides about 1,380 W, below the hob's 1,600 W maximum. A 10 A supply provides about 2,300 W, leaving about 700 W for other loads when both zones are at full power. |
| Direct mains AC power | Use a suitable mains socket and a supply matching the voltage and frequency on the hob's rating label. No inverter is needed when using compatible mains AC power. |
| Pure-sine-wave inverter or power station | As a starting point, allow at least 1,000 W continuous AC output for one 800 W zone, or 2,000 W continuous for both zones. Use continuous output, not the peak/surge rating. Confirm induction-hob compatibility with Vango and the inverter supplier before buying; these sizes alone do not guarantee operation. Do not assume a modified-sine-wave inverter is suitable. |
| Battery capacity and discharge capability | Check usable watt-hours (Wh), not Ah alone: nominal Wh = battery voltage × Ah. Usable energy depends on chemistry and permitted depth of discharge. The battery/BMS, cabling and fusing must also support the inverter's input current. At 12 V and an assumed 90% inverter efficiency, 800 W needs about 74 A and 1,600 W about 148 A, before other loads. |
| Illustrative runtime | With 1,000 Wh of usable battery energy and an assumed 90% inverter efficiency, allow roughly 68 minutes at a constant 800 W, or 34 minutes at 1,600 W. Runtime ≈ usable battery Wh × inverter efficiency ÷ load W. Actual results vary with heat cycling, inverter standby consumption, other loads, battery condition, temperature and cut-off settings. These are estimates, not promised cooking times. |
| Cookware compatibility | Use induction-compatible cookware with a magnetic base, following the hob's pan-size guidance. A magnet sticking firmly to the base is a useful first check; stainless steel alone does not guarantee compatibility. |
| Safe setup | Follow the hob and power-system manuals. Keep the hob, plug and electrical connections dry, keep cooling vents clear and use a stable, heat-resistant surface. Never exceed the campsite or power-system rating. Have high-current battery/inverter installations specified and fitted by a competent installer. |
