Fix Up Look Sharp-Tents are in fashion

Tent Charity

Clay Cowie |

Here at World of Camping we sometimes get tents returned to us which have seen better days due to storm, or other damage. Instead of just throwing them away, we've found a much better use for them thanks to some fashion designers in Bristol. Ruth Strugnall and Gemma Pope have created an innovative new fashion line by upcycling materials such as curtains, duvet covers, bed sheets, and now tents. These garments are sold in aid of Childrens cancer charity CLIC Sargent and are currently on sale from CLIC Sargent's shop on Gloucester road in Bristol. Tentket Commenting on the new collection Ruth said “I am very excited that my new ‘Fix up Look Sharp’ line will be launching in CLIC Sargent’s Gloucester road shop, the one I help manage. It is a dream come true to see my creations displayed in-store and sold to help support young cancer patients. Upcycling is something I’m very passionate about, it inspires young people to connect with the clothing they wear and understand the life-cycle of a garment. It also encourages innovative, responsible and creative fashion, which is great. I just hope that the Bristol public love the new range as much as we do.” Also commenting on the Upcycled range, CLIC Sargent Stock Collection Coordinator, Clair Jones said, “The Trading team at CLIC Sargent has been blown away by the great talent and determination displayed by Ruth and Gemma in transforming the shops old stock to bring their designs to life. We are very excited about housing the girls inaugural fashion collection and are convinced it will be hugely successful and popular with customers. “The collection emphasises the important role that charity shops play in transforming unwanted items into vital funds. It is essential that people don’t underestimate the value of donating clothing and textiles to CLIC Sargent, especially where we have an initiative such as Fix Up Look Shop at Gloucester Road.” It's great when old material can be recycled or in this case upcycled, as they call it. If you have anything to donate for a great cause, please contact your nearest CLIC Sargent charity shop and tell them what you have to offer, before popping down with it. They are particularly in need of bright and bold tent fabric to use for their colourful creations.
