What is a free-standing campervan or motorhome awning?

The majority of motorhome and campervan awnings attach to the side or rear of your vehicle in some way.

The attaching part is the bit that usually causes the most confusion; rails, fixing kits, vehicle heights all having to be taken into consideration.

A free standing Awning is one which doesn't have the tunnel area connecting the awning to the vehicle. You still have an entrance/exit at the rear of the awning which faces the door of the van. This means that you still have the convenience of quick access between vehicle and awning without the tunnel part.

If you would prefer to use an awning like this, you can do so with any motorhome awning by simply rolling up the tunnel area and toggling it to the rear of the awning. Some awnings come with a removable tunnel part.
